Introducing…
The Rittenhouse Color Collection for 2026-27
It’s been a year of major change for My Dye Garden Studio. In July, Nicole left her job at the Waldorf School of Philadelphia after 30 years of teaching. Just four months later, the lease was signed on our lovely new studio at 216 W. Rittenhouse Street. Since then, it’s been a whirlwind of renovations, planting a new dye garden, and warming up every corner of the new space with the things we make, the colors we create, and all the people who have shown up to support us. There aren’t enough words to express our gratitude.
In light of so many changes, we felt this year’s color collection needed a bit of grounding, warming and openness to whatever may come next. You’ll see some new, super soft yarns, pima cotton embroidery threads, and more variegation as we welcome all the new things we never could have planned.
Natural dyeing is not about using nature, it is about spending time with nature, noticing and collaborating with what lives around us. This activity requires thoughtfulness, humility and gratitude, all of which permeate the color.
All of our materials are naturally dyed in our studio.
Our core collection, curated with our fellow makers & teachers in mind:
1-Ply Worsted
85% wool/15% mohair
Use sizes 6-8 knitting needles and sizes G-I crochet hooks.
2 ounces = approximately 95 yards
Who says you can’t knit socks if you live in Hawaii? This heavenly soft and smooth cotton is a great choice for any warm weather garment. It’s also perfect for glowing star mats, net bags, and warm-climate hats. The exceptionally long fibers soak up plant dyes and makes them gleam! Super long Pima fibers add durability, without bulk.
Worsted weight
100% Pima cotton
50 grams = approximately 90 yards of Pima cotton bliss.
Use size 3-6 knitting needles, size F-H crochet hook
This yarn described by a customer as a box full of fluffy kittens! As soon as you see and feel them, you will know why.
Wonderful for the little ones, for finger knitting and first-time knitting. Even the colors feel soft and cozy on this yarn.
Bulky weight 1-ply
2 ounces = approximately 63 yards
85% wool/15% mohair
Use size 10+ knitting needles
This soul nurturing blend has a gorgeous rustic look, and a super soft zero-itch feel. The earthy base has a unique relationship with plant color, giving it a soft, heathered glow. My students are using this yarn for socks right now and I have never been happier with the results.
70% Organic Wool/30% Linen
Worsted 4-ply
50 grams = approximately 83 meters/90 yards
Use with sizes 3-7 knitting needles and sizes G-H crochet hooks.
This happy yarn loves to turn plant dyes into a color party that goes on for years. We can’t deny, high quality super wash has its benefits. If you need it to be soft enough for a baby, colorful enough for your grumpiest student, and resilient enough to take a ride in the washer and dryer, this is it.
Worsted weight 4-ply
100% Merino superwash
2 ounces = approximately 105 yards
Use sizes 4-8 knitting needles, sizes G-H crochet hooks
Our 100% wool felt is soft, with a slight natural texture that enhances the plant dyed color.
The 1/16” thickness is perfect for pliable, easy to sew projects that are firm enough to hold their shape and last for years.
Individually dyed, each piece may include some natural marbling, which we don’t try very hard to avoid.
Available in single sheets, or the full collection of 25 plant dyed colors.
